Jean C. Cohn | American Impressionist

The artist becomes immersed in her work. She looses track of time. Her only objective is to create, to express, to develop a painting that tells her story, her inner feelings, her joy and zest for life!

I am that artist.

About the Artist

Jean C. Cohn - American ImpressionistJean Cohn was born in Chicago, Illinois and currently resides in Laguna Woods, CA. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art where the expressive use of color and light of the Impressionists greatly influenced her work. In Illinois, her paintings were represented in galleries, local shows and exhibitions.

In 1965, Jean moved to Claremont, California and returned to academia, earning her Masters Degree in Education. She successfully combined her two passions, art and children, and taught Early Childhood Education at Mount San Antonio College for almost two decades. In Claremont, she studied painting with Walter Mix, who inspired her to further explore and experiment with light, color and form.

Upon her retirement from teaching, Jean moved to Orange County in 1992 and continued to pursue her artistic passion, attending many workshops and studying with well-known local artists. She has earned recognition and numerous awards through her participation in gallery, group and juried shows. Her paintings appeal to a wide range of private collectors and professional designers.

Jean Cohn’s paintings are created with oil on canvas. Enamored with the extreme beauty of her surroundings, her current works convey that message through a unique quality of the drama of light and color as she captures expressive, yet subtle poses, or with a lush palette of colors and bringing natural and architectural forms of life.
